Personal myths are stories that we tell and re-tell to frame and understand the world around us. The myths that we choose to tell explain our worldview to ourselves and to others. Myths often have no specific reference points and are not based on verifiable facts, so they are just stories that we choose to live by.

The myths that we choose reflect our beliefs –>
our beliefs shape our behavior –>
and in turn, our behavior affects the life that we create for ourselves.

Personal myths can make us feel strong and capable (e.g. “I am a great problem-solver”), or weak and powerless (e.g. “I have no decision-making power”).

Here are four common personal myths that you can safely drop in order to feel more peaceful and powerful:

1. “I am not cut out for this!”
2. “People won’t approve.”
3. “Things should be different!”
4. “I don’t know.”

Over the next week, let’s debunk these myths one by one, and choose powerful personal stories to replace them. Stay tuned for details starting with the next post!
