Preparing for the End of the World and for Other Things in Life

You may have heard: the world was predicted to end on May 21, 2011.

Did you believe it? Many people did. From what I’ve seen on the news, the people who believed in it lived the last few months guided by their belief, whatever it meant to them:
– some sold all of their possessions
– some spent a lot of money or quit their jobs
– some told their family how much they love them (or hate them)
– there was even a story of a teen girl who committed suicide, terrified of the experience of the end of the world.

It is rare when we know for a fact what is going to happen in the future. We can feel, dream, think, plan, hope, and walk towards our desired future, but we never really Know. You may argue:
“I know I will graduate!”
“I know I will find the love of my life!”
“I know that I will make this start-up successful!”

You may also choose to argue for your limitations:
“I know I will never get that job/girl/raise/house/luck!”

Here’s my question: does it matter what will REALLY happen? My answer is NOT at all. There are two things that matter, though:

1. What you Choose to Believe is going to happen,
and
2. How you choose to live your life in light of your belief

You can choose to believe that you will graduate, and your path to this could be to study 24/7.
You can choose to believe that you will meet that special someone; your path to this could be acting openly and authentically.

As long as your path is consistent with your belief, you are in good shape. And you can always choose a new belief and a new path if things don’t manifest the way you expect them to.

So, what do you choose to believe about the world, and how does it shape the way you live?
